3 Arrested for Car Wash Burglary

On Thursday July 6th, 2017, at approximately 3:00am, Chesterfield Township Officers responded to an alarm at the “Chesterfield Auto Wash”. Upon their arrival they confronted suspect Gage Bernier in one of the wash bays, spraying water onto an unoccupied U-HAUL van. Gage Bernier was unable to produce any form of identification and Officers noted that he began to “shake” and “sweat” while they spoke with him. Another Officer then walked around the UHAUL van to begin inspecting the perimeter of the business and immediately noticed a hole smashed through the block wall that led into the maintenance/equipment room. As Officers were detaining suspect Bernier, Chesterfield Dispatchers advised the Officers that they were on the phone with the owner, that he was viewing real time surveillance video remotely, and that he could see (2) additional suspects inside of the maintenance/equipment room. After commands from the Officers for the suspects to exit through the hole, both Michael Whipkey and Andrew Brookins emerged and were taken into custody without incident. Inside of the UHAUL Officers located an assortment of burglary tools, including a sledge hammer, bolt cutters, a pry bar, and a hack saw.

After review today by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office all (3) suspects were charged with: “Breaking and Entering a Building With Intent” (10 year felony), “Possession of Burglary Tools” (10 year felony), and “Breaking and Entering a Coin Box” (6 month misdemeanor). They were arraigned today at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore via video from the Chesterfield Township Police Department and are currently being held at the Macomb County Jail on cash bonds ranging from $5,000.00 to $10,000.00

    Six Arrested For Home Invasion

On Thursday (June 8th 2017) at approximately 12:20pm a resident of the 28100 block of Raleigh Crescent called the Chesterfield 911 Dispatch Center and reported seeing several males running from the Georgetown Apartment Complex to a brown Buick parked behind his residence. He stated the males were carrying a large flat screen television and had unknown items concealed under their shirts and that they had just loaded the items into the brown Buick and took off towards 23 Mile Road. A Chesterfield Township Officer spotted the suspect vehicle west bound on I-94 as it passed 21 Mile Road and stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the freeway where he was able to observe (3) males seated in the back seat, with a 60” flat screen TV across their laps.

Back up units arrived at the scene of the stop as additional Officers located the scene of the Home Invasion back in the Georgetown Apartments (28100 block of 23 Mile Road). The suspects (2-females in the front seats and 3-males in the back seat) were taken into custody without incident. After Officers had the (5) suspects safely secured, they discovered the (6th) suspect, Kelvin Horton, hiding in the trunk of the vehicle along with a laptop taken in the Home Invasion. It was later determined that while hastily fleeing the scene of the Home Invasion the suspects discovered that the 60” television would not fit in the trunk, but that Kelvin Horton willingly would.

  • Parolees Arrested For Home Invasion

    Parolees Arrested For Home Invasion

    SUSPECTS:

    • Robert Joseph Mazzola, a 56 year old Parole Absconder from Roseville Mi.
    • Joseph Michael Kay, a 32 year old Parolee from Warren Mi.

On Friday 6-2-17, at approximately 12:15pm, Chesterfield Township Officers responded to a call of a Home Invasion in progress in the 30500 block of 24 Mile Road. The homeowner advised the Chesterfield 911 dispatchers that he was notified by his alarm company of suspicious activity at his home and he in turn remotely viewed his homes video surveillance cameras (from his smart phone). The homeowner told the dispatchers that he viewed a vehicle in his driveway that should not be there, and described the vehicle as an older, white, stripped down “police car.”

Responding Officers were given this information and the vehicle was spotted leaving the burglary by a Chesterfield Township Officer at 24 Mile Road and Gratiot. The Officer activated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle (driven by Robert Mazzola) immediately pulled into the CVS parking lot at the corner of 24 Mile Road and Gratiot. As soon as the suspect vehicle came to a stop, the passenger (Joseph Kay) bailed out and began running south bound through a wooded area adjacent to the CVS. Several Chesterfield Police units saturated the area and Joseph Kay was taken into custody a short time later when he was located under a carport in an apartment complex on Carriage Way, east of Gratiot. The driver, Robert Mazzola, was taken into custody in the CVS parking lot without incident. The arresting Officer recovered several items taken in the burglary from the floor of the vehicle driven by Mazzola.

During the investigation that followed it was determined that Robert Mazzola was a wanted parole absconder and that Joseph Kay was currently on parole, both with lengthy criminal histories that included burglary and drug convictions.

Both Mazzola and Kay were arraigned today (6-5-17) at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on (1) count each of Home Invasion 2nd Degree (15 year felonies). They are currently lodged at the Macomb County Jail on $25,000.00 cash bonds (along with Parole Detainers).
