  • DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – Sat. 4/30/22

DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – Sat. 4/30/22

On Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Chesterfield Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to Chesterfield Police Headquarters at 46525 Continental Dr.

We cannot accept illegal drugs, liquids, needles/sharps, inhalers, mercury thermometers, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), flares, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc.), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, chemicals, oil, or gas), no unmarked acids – only pills or patches.

This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths. While the community does its part to turn in unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm, we are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows year after year that the majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else’s medication being stolen from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Governor Rick Snyder, S.A.N.G. Commander General Slocum, and a bipartisan group of policital figures were in attendance today for the groundbreaking for the new Southeast Michigan Veterans Home in Chesterfield Township. The property formerly known as Sebille Manor, once served as active duty base housing, for Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

When completed, it will serve 128 veterans, who will reside in four smaller houses. Veterans will have their own bedroom and bathroom, a common gathering area and kitchen space. These smaller houses will also connect to a community center with clinical and therapeutic services. The site for veterans will also feature the kind of amenities one might expect in a hometown community such as a barbershop and salon, a large space for full member and community meeting, courtyards and green space.

  • Gift Of Life – Remembering and Honoring Fallen Heroes

Gift Of Life – Remembering and Honoring Fallen Heroes

Every day, first responders put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect the public.  For some, their service to the community continues even after they are gone.

Our department is joining forces with dozens of police departments and first responders across the state to honor our fallen heroes who have given their final gifts through organ, tissue and eye donation.

It’s important to know that everyone can sign up to donate life, regardless of age or medical history.  Donors can save up to eight lives by providing organs for transplant and improve the lives of up to 75 others through the gifts of tissues and corneas.

You can help us to honor the fallen heroes among us and provide hope to the more than 3,300 people in the state waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry today at giftoflifemichigan.org/go/fallenheroes.

  • Chesterfield Township Launches Smart911 Safety Initiative

Chesterfield Township Launches Smart911 Safety Initiative

Chesterfield Township Public Safety Officials Encourage Residents to Sign Up For the Free Service To Be Better Prepared for an Emergency

Smart911 is a 9-1-1 enhancement that is now available to all residents and travelers of Chesterfield Township. Smart911 is a free service that allows individuals and families to sign up online to create a Safety Profile and provide vital information to 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. The Smart911 platform provides valuable new tools and the information listed in Safety Profiles enables a faster more informed response.

“The information residents provide in their Safety Profile can help 9-1-1 dispatchers and first responders be more prepared to assist you in case of emergency” said Lt. Brian McNair. “Taking advantage of Smart911 is one thing residents can do to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe.”

Smart911 allows residents and travelers to create a Safety Profile at www.smart911.com for their whole household that includes any information they might want 9-1-1 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency, such as allergy information or pre-existing medical conditions. When a citizen dials 9-1-1, their Safety Profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker, allowing us to send the appropriate responder/s to the right location with the right information.

“Most people are unaware that their mobile phone cannot always determine their exact location” said Lt. McNair.  “A weak cell signal or a dropped call only adds to the difficulty 9-1-1 dispatchers sometimes have trying to locate you. Information provided in your Safety Profile can potentially alleviate some of these difficulties, making sure you receive help fast.”

With Smart911, citizens can link both home and work addresses to mobile phones, which can be passed on to responders in the field for more a detailed, rapid response. Additional information including pets in the home, vehicle details in the event of an accident, and even emergency contacts can all be included in a Safety Profile.  All information is optional and the citizen has the ability to choose what details they would like to include.

One of the great aspects of this new safety initiative is the Facility component. Owners and managers can now better prepare and protect their employees and visitors by creating profiles for their facility and campus grounds. These facility profiles will pop up on a dispatchers screen anytime any phone within the facility grounds makes an emergency call. Points of access, floor plans and emergency procedures can all be included. Owners and managers can sign up at ravefacility.com

Smart911 is a national service that protects over 45 million people across 44 states and 3,100 communities and has been credited with positively impacting emergency outcomes. Citizens are encouraged to create their Safety Profile with Smart911 today to have their information immediately available to 9-1-1 and to receive emergency notifications. Smart911 is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses, and only made available to the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency call.
