    On 01/29/17, 12:15 hrs., a W/M entered the Chesterfield Target located at 51400 Gratiot Rd., selected a 32” Vizio TV and pushed the TV out the front doors in a shopping cart.

    SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:

    W/M/late 30’s/ early 40’s,, tan Carhart jacket, blk. hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, tan work boots, short brown hair with beard. Per Target Loss Prevention, the suspect has a tattoo above each of his eyebrows (cursive letters) and teardrop tattoos near his left eye.

    Credit Card Fraud Suspects

    krogerOn February 9, 2017, 2 unknown suspects used victim’s cloned credit card to purchase gift cards from the Kroger in Clinton Township. The 2 suspects made purchases of $56 and $58.12, see attached photographs of suspects. The suspects appear to make several purchases using multiple cloned credit cards. The suspect’s spent approximately 5 minutes at the self-scan checkout making gift card purchases.

  • Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting a 12 Year Old

    Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting a 12 Year Old

    SUSPECT: James Curtis Beck, a 44 year old resident of Chesterfield Township.

    On Sunday (February 12th, 2017) a 12 year old female from Macomb Township reported that she was sexually assaulted by James Beck while attending a gathering of teens at Mr. Beck’s residence in the “Carriage Way” mobile home community (24 Mile and Gratiot area). The assault was reported to have occurred the prior (Saturday) evening. Chesterfield Township Officers set up surveillance on the Beck residence and placed James Beck under arrest as he returned home from work late Sunday evening. A subsequent search warrant was executed at his home, where investigators seized several pieces of potential evidence.

    After review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office, James Beck was charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct-First Degree, a mandatory minimum of, 25 Years to Life, Felony. James Beck was arraigned today at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore in front of Judge William Hackel. He was given a $50,000.00 cash surety bond (next hearing scheduled for 2-22-17 at 9:00am). He is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail.

    **In December of 2015 James Beck was charged with (2) counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct-Second Degree (person under 13). These charges have yet to be adjudicated and are scheduled for hearings in the Macomb County Circuit Court in the near future.**

    The Chesterfield Police Department is trying to identify a suspect that was responsible for the theft of a woman’s purse from the Chesterfield Walmart located at 45400 Marketplace Dr. The incident took place on January 10, 2017, 3:10 PM.   • Special Tricycle Stolen From Mini-Van

    Special Tricycle Stolen From Mini-Van

    1Between 01/15/17 at 14:00 hours till 1/16/2017 at 7:00 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2001 Voyager. The vehicle was recovered on 1/17/2017 at approximately 4:00 hours by the Michigan State Police. The vehicle was found abandoned on e/b I-96, east of I-275, the ignition was punched. The following equipment was inside the vehicle at the time of the theft: Freedom Concepts Tricycle, purple in color. The Freedom Concepts Tricycle is valued at approximately $5,000 and is custom made for the victim’s handicapped son. The Freedom Concepts Tricycle wasn’t inside the vehicle at the time of recovery.

    DTE Officials are expecting 24 Mile & Fairchild to remain closed until midday Wednesday while crews make the necessary repairs.

    24 Mile & Fairchild is currently closed to all traffic because of an accident that resulted in a power pole being knocked over. Please seek alternate routes until further notice.

    Chesterfield Police Receive Sizeable Donation For K9 Program

    The Chesterfield Township Police Department is pleased to announce that we have received a sizeable donation intended to be attributed to funding the reinstatement of the department’s K-9 unit.

    Jim and Janet Riehl of Chesterfield Township, and owners of “Jim Riehl Friendly Automotive Group”, have generously made a gracious donation of $35,000.00 to be applied specifically to our K-9 program. The donation will be made in-person at the Chesterfield Township board meeting tonight at 7:00pm. The ceremony will be witnessed by Chesterfield Township elected officials, department heads, citizens and press.

    This donation is the latest in a series of recent community fundraising efforts, targeted specifically upon reestablishing the Chesterfield Township Police Department’s K-9 Unit, which had been discontinued in recent years. We are pleased to announce, that the combination of this donation with all other contributions to this point, will surpass our goals and indeed fund the K-9 Unit!

    The Chesterfield Township Police Department would like to thank all of our community partners who have demonstrated their support of our K-9 program via their time, efforts and financial donations. We would also like to thank the Riehl family once again for their generosity, which has allowed us to surpass our hopes for this program!

    In these tumultuous times, when law enforcement is not always perceived in the most positive light by media – it is greatly rewarding to know that our community appreciates our department, the challenges we face every day, and the commitment we strive to uphold in maintaining the safety and quality of life for all citizens and visitors of our community. The continuous outpouring of support that we see from the citizens of Chesterfield Township makes this a great community in which to serve!

    2Location: Rosseels Farm & Garden Supply – 50025 Gratiot, Chesterfield Twp.

    Between 20:00hrs – 05:00hrs 12/12-12/13, an unknown suspect stole the following equipment: 2008 Ford F250 pickup truck. Attached to the truck was a 2016 Hudson Trailer. On the trailer was a 1996 Bobcat 763 Skid Steer, VIN# 512218663. The 2008 Ford F250 pickup and 2016 Hudson Trailer were recovered at Genex Windows, located at 23110 Sherwood in Warren, MI. The 1996 Bobcat 763 Skid Steer is unaccounted for at this time.

    Rash of Drug Overdoses

    Over the weekend of December 9th, 10th, and 11th, Chesterfield Township Police and Fire Units responded to the scene of (5) separate suspected drug overdoses. The victims in these incidents, all males, ranged from ages 23 to 56 years old. In (3) of the incidents the results were fatal. In (2) of the incidents the patients were revived at the scene when Medstar medics administered Narcan. Although future laboratory analysis and toxicology reports will be required to determine the actual cause of death, officers at the scenes confiscated powder and narcotic paraphernalia consistently associated with the use of heroin.

  • Fatal Pedestrian Accident

    Fatal Pedestrian Accident

    VICTIM (Pedestrian): Ricky Jay Baker, a 60 year old male with a last known address in Roseville, MI.

    On Sunday November 27th, at approximately 6:05 p.m., Chesterfield Township Police and Fire units responded to north bound Gratiot, south of 21 Mile Road, where 911 callers were reporting that a pedestrian had just been struck by a vehicle. At the scene Officers located Mr. Baker lying in the roadway critically injured and the driver that struck him (a 28 year old man from Columbiaville Mi., driving a 2003 Buick) pulled off to the side of the roadway. Mr. Baker was conveyed from the scene by Medstar where he was pronounced deceased a short time later at McLaren Macomb Hospital. The driver that struck him told Officers that he was simply traveling home from work, north bound on Gratiot, when Mr. Baker attempted to run across Gratiot (from east side to west side) and ran directly in front of his vehicle. He stated he was unable to stop or avoid him at that time. Witnesses at the scene gave similar accounts of the accident.

    At this stage in the investigation alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has additional information is urged to call Chesterfield Township Detective James Gates at 586-949-3304.
