  • Rollover Accident / I-94 at 21 Mile Road

Rollover Accident / I-94 at 21 Mile Road

    0802rollover

On Tuesday (08/02/16) at approximately 8:30am, multiple Chesterfield Township Police and Fire units, assisted by MSP, MCSD, and Medstar units, responded to the scene of a rollover injury accident on west bound I-94, just east of the 21 Mile Road overpass. The ongoing investigation has led Officers to believe that a 57 year old Detroit man, driving a semi tractor-trailer, lost control and rolled onto his side as he entered west bound I-94 (from the west bound 21 Mile Road entrance ramp). The semi slid across all (3) west bound lanes of I-94 and struck a 46 year old man from Casco Mi. that was driving his 2014 Ford passenger van west bound in the “fast lane”. The colliding vehicles came to rest pinned in between the median guard rails (just east of the 21 Mile Road overpass). Both drivers were assisted from their vehicles and ultimately conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital. Remarkably, neither driver sustained life threatening injuries.

There exists the possibility that speed and/or alcohol were contributing factors in this crash. Results of a blood draw conducted at the hospital, and the conclusion of the accident investigators, will likely be presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor at a later date for review.

  • Fatal Pedestrian / Train Accident

    Fatal Pedestrian / Train Accident

Victim: At this time we believe the victim is a 25 year old male from Macomb Township. The investigation is ongoing at this point and we anticipate taking additional steps to confirm his identity.

On Sunday evening (7/24/16), at approximately 10:45pm, Chesterfield Township Officers responded to the railroad tracks south of 24 Mile Road and east of Chesterfield Road, where it was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a train. Officers made contact with the engineer (CN Railroad) who had stopped the northbound train near 24 Mile Road. The engineer told Officers that he was northbound, and past 23 Mile Road, when he observed a white male laying across the tracks on his back. The engineer stated he was unable to stop the train and struck the male where he laid. Officers searched the railroad tracks on foot and discovered the deceased male on the tracks between 23 Mile Rd. and 24 Mile Rd. (behind the Home Depot). The man’s vehicle was later located parked in the Meijer parking lot at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is urged to call Detective Chris Delor at 586-949-3375.

    Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Victim: James Meredith Weir, a 69 year old man from Lexington Michigan.

On Saturday (July 23rd), at approximately 11:50am, A Chesterfield Township Officer on patrol drove upon an accident that had just occurred at 22 Mile Road and Gratiot. The investigation at the scene revealed that Mr. James Weir (Driving a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle and wearing a helmet) was stopped southbound on Gratiot at 22 Mile Road for a red light. He was struck from behind by a 43 year old New Haven woman (driving a Pontiac G6) that told Officers she did not realize the vehicles in front of her were stopped for the light until it was too late to stop. The impact sent Mr. Weir forward and into a Chevy Trailblazer that was also stopped for the red light in front of him. Mr. Weir was thrown from his motorcycle, but was conscious at the scene and able to give Officers his account of what happened. Mr. Weir was conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased during surgery to repair his internal injuries. The other drivers involved received no serious injuries and alcohol/drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to call Detective Chris Delor at 586-949-3375.

  • Head-On Accident / Serious Injury

    Head-On Accident / Serious Injury

On Tuesday July 19th, at approximately 9:45pm, Chesterfield Township Officers responded to a head-on injury accident on County Line south of 26 Mile Road. The on scene investigation led Officers to believe that a 19 year old Macomb Township woman driving north on County Line(in a 2001 GMC Jimmy) , crossed into the south bound lane and collided head-on with a 2008 Chrysler 300, driven by a 25 year old Chesterfield woman that had her 1 year old in the rear seat. Both vehicles were severely damaged and both women were seriously injured and hospitalized. The 1 year old sustained no apparent serious injuries and was taken home by family members that same night from the hospital.

The 25 year old Chesterfield Township woman remains hospitalized at this time and Chesterfield Township accident investigators are actively reconstructing the crash scene. • Homeowner Interrupts Thief In His Garage

Homeowner Interrupts Thief In His Garage

    ERIC-DWAYNE-MURRAY

SUSPECT: Eric Dwayne Murray, a 17 year old male from Chesterfield Township.

On Tuesday morning (6/14/16), at approximately 7:30am, a resident of the 52800 block of Mary Martin heard a loud noise coming from the inside of his attached garage. He entered the garage (from the doorway that leads into the home) and observed an unknown male beginning to wheel his 18 speed bicycle down the driveway (the bicycle had previously been hanging from a hook mounted in the ceiling). The resident yelled at the suspect and the suspect immediately dropped the bicycle and began running between the houses. The resident called 911 and gave a detailed description of the suspect. Multiple Chesterfield Township patrol units responded and the suspect was ultimately located walking on 24 Mile Road, east of Gratiot. His clothing, from head to toe, including his backpack, were an exact match as described by the homeowner and the suspect was placed under arrest. He was initially adamant with the arresting Officers that he had not been on Mary Martin and that he was just coming from the “7-11”, but later during questioning with Detectives at the Chesterfield Police Department, admitted that he had indeed entered the open garage intending to steal the bicycle.

After review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office, Eric Murray was arraigned at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on the charge of: “Breaking and Entering–Entry Without Breaking With Intent” (5 year felony). His bond was set at $3,000.00 10% and his next court date is 6/22/16 at 9:00am.
