    Late Night Thief Arrested

ARRESTED: Malik William Lowe, 19 years old, from Clinton Township MI.

Early Saturday morning (3-26-16), at approximately 2:55am, Chesterfield Officers were dispatched to Hale Lane where neighbors were reporting a suspicious subject walking around the homes under the cover of darkness. As Officers began to saturate the area, a Chesterfield Township Officer observed a subject (later identified as Malik Lowe) laying on the ground, next to a parked car, obviously attempting to hide from the passing patrol vehicle. The Officer exited his patrol vehicle and began to approach the subject and the subject jumped to his feet and began fleeing. The Officer gave chase, shouting commands for Mr. Lowe to stop. After a brief attempt to escape, Mr. Lowe stopped and surrendered in the street. Assisting Officers in the area at the same time determined that a neighbor on E. Adler Park had left their attached garage door open, and was reporting that (2) bicycles had just been stolen from inside. A short distance away Officers located a black Ford Explorer parked on E. Adler Park and determined it belonged to Malik Lowe. Parked outside of Mr. Lowe’s Explorer was one of the bicycles stolen from the nearby neighbors garage. Officers observed the other stolen bicycle inside the Explorer on the rear seat. Mr. Lowe was placed under arrest and his vehicle was impounded.

During an inventory search of Mr. Lowe’s vehicle, Officers located a .22 caliber handgun wrapped in a bandana in the back of the truck, and a cell phone that did not belong to Mr. Lowe, in the front seat. Officers later determined the cell phone had been stolen on this same night from a parked vehicle in Macomb Township. During a subsequent interview with a Chesterfield Detective, Mr. Lowe admitted to entering the Adler Park garage and stealing the bicycles. He stated the .22 caliber handgun was given to him by a “friend” a while ago, and that he carried it for protection.

On Monday (3-28-16), after review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office, Mr. Malik was charged with:

    • Breaking and Entering (5 year felony)
    • Carrying a Concealed Weapon (5 year felony)
    • Resist and Obstruct an Officer (2 year felony)
    • Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $200 to $1,000.00 (1 year misdemeanor)

Mr. Lowe was arraigned via video at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore and is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $10,000.00 cash bond.

The 22 year old New Haven then collided, head-on, with a 2013 Hyundai Accent, driven by a 58 year old Roseville woman and her 37 year old daughter/passenger.

SUSPECT VEHICLE: Described as a clean, newer, black, (4) door car (unknown make or model) with an American Flag license plate on the front of the vehicle, and an American Flag sticker in the rear window.

LOCATION: 33700 Hooker Road (Lottie Schmidt Elementary School), Chesterfield Township, MI 48047

    TIME: 3:45 PM (Monday, March 14, 2016)

A 12 year old boy (and an independent adult witness who saw the encounter from a distance) reported that as he was walking through the parking lot of the Lottie Schmidt Elementary School, the individual described above pulled into the parking lot at a high rate of speed, exited his vehicle, and began walking towards the boy. As he neared the boy, he attempted to hand the boy a piece of paper and requested that the boy give the paper “to the principal”. The boy told the man that he didn’t attend the school and was just there to pick up his younger brother. The man then got back into his vehicle and left the parking lot.

Although the unknown man never made any outright attempt to get the boy to go with him, this contact was suspicious in nature. In our ever vigilant attempt to keep the children of our community safe, we urge that anyone who may be able to help us identify this man contact the Chesterfield Township Police Department at 586-949-2322.

Coyotes likely responsible for killing a deer..

LOCATION: 50700 block of Kiely Dr. “Village of East Harbor”

At approximately 11:30pm on Wednesday night (3-9-16), an 80 year old female resident of the “Village of East Harbor” woke to a disturbing loud commotion right outside her back window. She described it as “growling, yelping, and howling”. She looked outside but was unable to see what was taking place due to the darkness. At daybreak she inspected her rear yard and observed what appeared to be a small fox feeding on a young deer carcass. Visible in the yard was blood and hair from the young deer that was strewn over a ten yard path from her grass yard to the wooded area behind her home.

The complex maintenance crew and Chesterfield Township Officers responded to the scene and the deer was disposed of properly by the maintenance crew. At this time we have no other recent documentation of any similar coyote contacts in our community, but do know that coyotes exist in Chesterfield.

As a precautionary measure the Chesterfield Township Police Department recommends that you keep watch over your smaller pets while they are outside.

Man Charged with Stabbing Dog and Domestic Violence

    PATRICK-OCONNOR

SUSPECT: Patrick Edward Oconnor, 24 years old and a Chesterfield Township resident.

On February 1st, 2016 the Clinton Township Police Department advised the Chesterfield Police Department that they were investigating an animal cruelty complaint and that during the preliminary stages of the investigation they had determined the crime had most likely occurred in Chesterfield. The initial complaint came from the “Advanced Animal Emergency” (located on Gratiot in Clinton Township) where a Veterinarian reported that a pit-bull mix dog had been brought in by a Chesterfield woman and that the dog was suffering from (9) apparent stab wounds to the body, one of which punctured the dogs lung and required surgery. The woman stated that an ex-boyfriend had stabbed the dog, but refused to supply his identity in fear of retaliation. Chesterfield Detectives took over the investigation and focused on Patrick Oconnor, but were unable to initially make contact with him.

Dog-InjuriesOn Tuesday February 10th at approximately 3:30am Chesterfield Township Officers responded to a Domestic Violence call at the “Georgetown” apartments (28100 block of 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township). Patrick Oconnor was ultimately arrested at this location for assaulting a 29 year old female acquaintance. While held at the Chesterfield Police Department on the Domestic Violence charge, assisted by Attorney Michael J. Aed, Detectives questioned him regarding the injured dog. Patrick Oconnor told investigators that he had an alcohol and anger management problem and that “I did what I did”. Investigators believe Patrick Oconnor was upset that the dog had had defecated on the floor in his apartment, provoking his stabbing attack on the dog.

After review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office, Patrick Oconnor was charged with “Domestic Violence” (93 day misdemeanor) and “Animals-Torturing/Killing” (4 year felony). He was arraigned yesterday at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore via video from the Chesterfield Township Police Department. His bond was set at $20,000.00 cash and he is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail.

Investigators have learned that the dog is slowly making a recovery and that one of the veterinarian’s that administered the emergency care is actually adopting the dog, as the woman who initially brought her in has signed off on her ownership.
